Here is the recipe for my favorite cranberry sauce that I make every year for Thanksgiving. It is super easy to make, and is always a big hit. It has a nice balance of sour, sweet, and bitter flavors.
Ingredients
16 oz cranberries
1 tart apple, peeled and finely chopped
1 large orange
1 cinnamon sticks
A few cloves
Maple syrup to sweeten
Sort through the cranberries to discard any soft and squishy ones.
Juice the orange, and finely dice one half of the orange rind.
Combine cranberries, orange juice, chopped orange rind, chopped apple, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a saucepan. Bring to a boil on high heat, then turn heat down to a simmer and half cover the pan.
Simmer, stirring frequently, for a half hour. Add a little water as needed to prevent sauce from burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Sweeten sauce with maple syrup to taste, then simmer for a few more minutes.
Serve immediately, or save for later, this sauce keeps very well.
Serve and enjoy!
